President's Report
Letter from the President
Happy July, KHEA Members! I hope you are staying cool and enjoying the wetter-than-usual weather this summer. It seems to me like this summer is going exceptionally fast, and it will soon be time for the Fall Conference. It seems like we were just in Salina for the golf tournament just last week, but it’s been over a month now. Speaking of the golf tournament, we had a pretty good turnout and were able to send two folks to the annual Healthcare Innovations conference. Due to personal commitments and some family issues, I was unable to attend this year, and we had some up-and-coming leaders in our organization go instead. I look forward to hearing about their experiences in the coming weeks and again at our conference.
Speaking of the Fall Conference, the program committee has been working hard to put together an excellent program for you and I am sure there will be a little bit of something for everyone. We will have an update from ASHE along with the ever-popular roundtable discussion and a section from the KSFMO. We will also have some subject matter experts talking about upcoming requirements for sterile processing water and electrical safety. Last fall, we touched on the new proposed water safety standard, ST108, and there was enough interest to get more information to the group. The latest update to NFPA 70 is in the form of NFPA 70B, and while not required by AHJs at this time, many insurance companies are requiring it of their insured facilities. We thought it would be good to get this information out to our group before being surprised by your insurance carrier requiring it. Make sure to mark your calendars for September 16-18 for the conference.
Another learning and networking opportunity will be the ASHE Region 8 conference in October. The conference will be in Omaha this year, and the planning committee for that one has been working overtime to put together a great experience.
Last but not least, we have been working on putting together some great opportunities for our vendor members. We have developed packages that enable organizations to bundle options, offering them savings and significant perks. We will roll out some of those options for the conference, while others will become available at the start of the year. In the meantime, please express your gratitude to them for their support in being part of the organization. Without the support of our vendors, we would be even more limited in some of our options for great learning and networking opportunities.
I hope to see you all in Manhattan,
Gregg Freelove
